Big Otter is a school-wide Title I School
Big Otter made AYP 2010-2011

It is both an honor and privilege for me to welcome the parents and students of Big Otter Elementary to another exciting and stimulating school year.  I am exceptionally proud to once again be a part of this outstanding school and community.  Big Otter is fortunate and privileged to have parents, students, faculty and staff with strong moral fiber, excellent work ethics, and an inherent desire to succeed in all they do.

Over the past four years, our students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades have demonstrated their desire for success.  They have performed well on the WESTEST 1 and most recently on the WESTEST 2.  In the Hugh Boggs Math Field Day Mike Willis placed 1st in the 5th grade Oral Test, Sharina Ratliff placed 2nd on the written test. Fourth Grade Virginia Haverty placed 2nd on the Oral Test, and Emma Browning placed 2nd on the Written Test. In theThird Grade Dane Adkins placed 2nd on the Oral Test and Zoe Davis placed 3rd on the Written Test.  Our alternates were Sarah Bass, Jacob Lough, and Jessica Morris.  We are proud of these students who represented Big Otter well!  Big Otter took three out of five places in the spelling bee.  Reagan Tanner  won second place, Mike Willis won fourth place, and Lori way won 5th place.  This degree of success could not be possible if we did not have two fundamental components throughout our buildings:  a high-quality curriculum and an outstanding "team of instructors" orchestrating the learning process for all of our students. 
 
This level of academic achievement, however, can only be accomplished through strong parental support, dedication, and encouragement. I truly believe the greatest gift you can give your child is a good education.  By working together, we can give that gift to all children in our community.

Big Otter has been named as a Title I Distinguished School!  We also rank # 36 out of over 704 elementary schools in West Virginia.

Big Otter Elementary also made "AYP" which is Adequate Yearly Progress for the school year 2010-2011.

I want to welcome Stacy Marks our new Preschool-Teacher.  I know she will do an excellent job.
Also, our former Pre-school Teacher, Anissa Collins, will now be teaching Kindergarten.
Karen Knopp our former Kindergarten Teacher is now our Art & Music Teacher.  We are excited this year to be able to offer this to our students as a full time curriculum.

A "big" Thank You to ACCAD one of our business partners for pouring our sidewalk along the front of the building. Owners Tim and Carrie Belt have generously donated this.
